Several weeks ago — before all this insanity with all three dogs having various bouts of tummy problems started — I decided to make up a concoction of frozen treats they could enjoy on the warmer (then still) Spring days.
Here’s what I did. It’s so easy that there’s really no excuse for not trying…and it only takes about 5 minutes to prepare them for the freezer…
1 cup Canned Organic Pumpkin*
1 cup Stonyfield Yogurt**
* don’t use the pumpkin pie filling because the spices may make the treats difficult for the dog to digest properly.
** I use fat-free yogurt for my girls, but the low-fat, reduced fat, or regular will probably work just as well.
Mix ingredients well and use a teaspoon to fill each mold in an ice cube tray (or other trays with different shapes). Put the filled molds in the freezer and wait about 2-3 hours before serving. I used my small paw-shaped and dog-bone-shaped molds, as you can see in the photo.
Just a word to the wise: Use these as special treats only. While pumpkin is an excellent source of fiber, over-use can make your dog constipated OR give him/her soft/loose stools. The yogurt with its good bacteria might counteract the gastric upset; but I don’t want to be responsible for either.

Delicious! Careful of the fat-free, though. Fat-free generally means sugar (because, believe-it-or-not, sugar has no fat). If you get plain yogurt instead, there is no sugar or sugar substitutes.
Thanks for that, Dawn!! It never dawned on me to check the sugar content. DUH…
Actually that’s a lesson I’ve learned through my own diet changes. You have to look at the overall nutrition when deciding which route to go. I’ve been amazed at what I’ve learned in terms of what goes up when something else comes down.
DELISH! Both ingredients suppose to be a remedy for digestive illness. Happy Tasty Tuesday. Golden Woofs
Those look like yummy and cute treats!
They look good and are easy. How do you prevent the pups from getting the drippings all over? I have no door to close in my kitchen.
I frankly don’t worry about it. Our carpet is nearly 20 years old and has seen much better days. Besides, the treats don’t last long enough to do any real damage. 🙂
Those look like great treats. Good call on the pumpkin pie filling…probably too spicy.
Those look yummy and they are easy to make! A win, win!!!!
I have made these before and the dogs love them. It couldn’t be any simpler, could it? Last time I made some frozen treats I made banana, peanut butter and yogurt, and I actually think they prefer the pumpkin ones. I have a can of pumpkin ready to go for next time, and yup, I buy the organic canned pumpkin too.
That looks yummy-licious!
