Meet The Bloggers Blog Hop

When I first saw the idea for this blog hop last week on Heart Like A Dog, I thought it was a great idea! I still do. But WordPress is giving me fits — not because of my blog per se, but because they want me to set up “two-step authentication” of my account (to supposedly make my account more secure). I mean, really, in this world of techie geeks who can crack government and finance company security codes, what makes WordPress think they’re going to make my (or anyone else’s) account more secure? But I digress, so without further ado I present my version of the “Meet the Bloggers”.

Here I am in all my grey-haired glory. This picture was taken about 3 years ago, when I first got my laptop, but nothing’s changed at all. I don’t even look any older.

Now, on to the questions….

What’s your favorite non-animal related book?
Traitor to His Class – it’s about FDR.
What’s your favorite non-animal related movie?
That’s a tough one — I have so many favorite movies, depending on my mood!
What’s your favorite non-animal related food?
Who’s your favorite actor?
Another toughie, but if I have to pick just one, I’d have to say Sean Connery. He IS “James Bond” in my eyes, and always will be the only one.
What’s one thing you have to do every day?
Besides the obvious, the one thing I have to do every day — several times a day — is get my dose of puppy kisses from Callie, Shadow, and Ducky.
What makes you feel fabulous?
Just being alive. I learned a L.O.N.G. time ago that nothing else matters as much in this world as just being alive.
What do you wish you were more skilled at?
Figuring out what the **** happened to my laptop two weeks ago.
What’s your favorite holiday?
Christmas, I guess; but it just doesn’t seem the same without my Dad.
Favorite meal?
Sauerbraten, Dumplings, and Red Cabbage at my favorite German restaurant. It’s to die for, especially if you’re like me and don’t particularly like to cook.
What do you like to do in your free time?
PLAY WITH MY DOGS, read, and watch a good movie…in that order. Sometimes I play with the dogs while I watch a movie.
What one word would people who know you use to describe you?
People who REALLY know me, or people who THINK they know me? Those who really know me would say “loyal”. People who only think they know me? It depends on whether they like me or not, I guess.
If your pets could talk, what one word would THEY use to describe you?
“Disciplinarian” — Well, somebody has to be! Hubby would spoil them with all the crap that’s not good for them, like bits of chocolate, human cookies, microwave popcorn (ugh!), etc., if I weren’t around to stop him.
What is one thing you’ve done that you’re most proud of?
Became a certified (by the Animal Behavior College) dog obedience trainer.
How is your pet most like you?
Now that’s tough! With all of them being very quick to pick up on my energy — good or bad — they will often show their like or dislike for certain people very quickly. And I tend to “wear my heart on my sleeve” at times.
What can your body do for you that makes you most proud?
I have NO IDEA how to answer this one!
If you could change one thing about your life what would it be?
Well, since our life experiences make us who we are, I’m not sure I would change anything. I’m pretty happy with who I am at this stage of my life.
Other than blogging, what are three things you do that bring you joy?
Playing with the dogs
Spending time with hubby
Spending quiet time by myself to “recharge”

What’s one thing you could do to be more kind to yourself?
Stop trying to control certain things. (I won’t go into detail here though.)
What drives you nuts about your pets?
When they howl at train whistles or sirens while they’re inside the house. (We have a very small house and I have very sensitive ears.)
What melts your heart?
The way they play together and show each other affection.
If you didn’t have your current pets, what pets would you choose to have?
I’d still have dogs. I can’t imagine my life without at least one dog sharing it.

Come on and join in the fun! I will warn you, participation may end in gaining many new friends who share the same fears. It’s a risk you’ll have to be willing to take. Don’t forget, if you give yourself permission to be unapologetically you, it encourages others to do the same and who knows what the fall out might be…

So glad you joined us on the hop. I LOVE what you said here: “Don’t forget, if you give yourself permission to be unapologetically you, it encourages others to do the same and who knows what the fall out might be…” I could not agree more. 🙂

Also, yes to Sean Connery and yes to cookies. Always yes.

  2. Jodi says:

Awesome Sue, just awesome!! Look at you being the over achiever and answering ALL the questions, I struggled to answer five. 🙂

I don’t always think it’s a bad thing to wear your heart on your sleeve, it’s putting ourselves out there that helps us grow.

Thanks so much for joining us on the hop, I hope you made a lot of new friends today!

    • The Golden Life says:

You are so right, Jodi! As for answering all the questions, it took me almost all day to write the post on Monday and get it set up the way I wanted it!

Right now I’m still getting used to the chromebook — it’s soooooooo sensitive compared to my laptop. I find myself cursing it at times. LOL

  3. ILoveDogs says:

I’m glad to get to know you better, Sue. 🙂

Yes, Sean Connery is THE James Bond, and that he’s a great actor.

I have a dog trainers certificate from Animal Behavior College too! I have opted not to become a dog trainer, though. I train my own dogs but have found I have no desire to teach people to train their dogs.

I love your answer to what would you change about your life and your answer to the last question. AGREE 100% to both.

    • The Golden Life says:

Ah, another one like me — opting not to become a dog trainer — although I don’t mind helping my mentor trainer out once in a while. She has helped me with Ducky, so it’s a fair trade. But I signed up for three of the CEP courses too — which I’ll be starting in January — just to keep up with the knowledge base. I’m also thinking of taking the Vet Assistant course, mostly for my own (and my dogs’) benefit. My vet has already said he’d be happy to have me work for him for the externship portion. We’ll see….

    • The Golden Life says:

Hi Pam! As for the James Bond schism, I certainly hope not! I have no problem with people disagreeing with me. I just happen to prefer the originals — from the actors/actresses who played a part

      • The Golden Life says:

before any one else to versions of songs and movies. Somehow, I just can’t see anyone else but Vivien Leigh playing Scarlett O’Hara, either. Or Bogie as Rick Blaine (Casablanca in case you’re not an old-movies lover like me). 🙂

    • thatjenk says:

LOL! That was me – the Moore fan.
No, no schism. I totally appreciate merit in every Bond actor.
      …Except Lazenby.
      Hahaha… just kidding (kinda).

They all brought their own thing to Bond, so it’s kind of hard to compare them anyway.

  4. Edie says:

Nice to get to know you, Sue! I’ve really enjoyed e-meeting you on my blog, and it’s very nice to learn more about the person behind all those heartfelt comments.

  5. The Golden Life says:

Wow! I am humbled by all the nice comments! If I haven’t commented on your own post yet, please be patient with me! I’m trying to read/comment on 3-5 of them a day…I’ll get to you sooner or later (preferably sooner).

  6. Jackie Bouchardj says:

Nice to get to know you! Funny… I posted a recent pic and a similar one from 3 years ago – and I haven’t changed at all. I’m not much for changing hairstyles and that sort of thing! I could have just put the 3 yrs ago one up and called it a day. 🙂

I, too, hope there won’t be a James Bond schism, because I would say Daniel Craig is the best Bond!

I agree on the ‘not changing anything’ answer. (Although that I just skipped that question.) 🙂

(Hmmm.. got an error the first time I tried to post this. Will try again – apologies if you get it twice.)

  7. FleaByte says:

So nice to meet you! I love your responses. And Daniel Craig is the latest Bond. Blondish. I hear he’s a close second to Connery, but I agree with you on your choice of Bonds. 😉

  8. Leslie says:

Lovely getting to know you, Sue – thanks for participating in the hop! I’m with you on the Bond question. Sean Connery IS Bond to me but I think, like you, I just have trouble adjusting to new players of the same part.

And also like you, I am having a very slow time reading and commenting on all the blogs. What a great hop this has turned out to be. Thanks for playing a part in it.

    • The Golden Life says:

And thank YOU (and Amy) for coming up with idea to begin with! It’s a “brain child” you and all your lovely co-hosts can and should be proud of! Hopefully more people will participate since you’re keeping the link open for a while!

  9. Donna and the Dogs says:

This was a great meet the blogger post, and so awesome to hear you haven’t aged in three years. I wish I could say the same. Actually, my face looks the same, but my waist has expanded a little. LOL!

Interestingly enough, a friend of ours gave us a huge venison roast, and so it is in the fridge pickling right now, for, you guessed it – Sauerbraten. It’s what Nick’s making for his family for Christmas! 🙂

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who couldn’t figure out how to answer that question about how your body makes you the most proud. LOL!

    • Callie, Shadow, and Ducky's Mom says:

Funny, I had sauerbraten for dinner tonight at our favorite restaurant. It was delicious as always! I will miss it for the next several weeks while our friends move their restaurant into a new location! (They purchased a trio of homes which they will be converting into a restaurant, cafe, and storage. Their current landlord is a person of questionable character, so I’m glad they’re getting away from him!)

    • The Golden Life says:

Thanks! That’s sweet! I am a grandma to my stepson’s two boys (nearly 3 years old and 4-1/2 months). I don’t get to see them often enough; but my own grandmas probably felt the same way when my brother and I were kids.

Have you joined the hop? I believe the link is still open, so you have time. I would love to see your answers to the questions, and a picture of you! Funny, at 60, I don’t FEEL like an old lady…at least not like I would have expected to when I was a teenager. 🙂 In fact, I feel younger now than I did at 40.

How are Timon and Pumbaa? I never really thought of turtles as hibernating animals.

I hope you have a Merry Christmas, too!!

      • Agnes Lu says:

        I have no wordpress blog!!!
My two little turtles are in their sweetest dreams!!! I often check them to see if they are still alive because they have no motion at all!!!
One more thing: When I read your thing, blog or google+, there is a tone or sound of nanny from those cartoon series hovering in my head!!!

  10. Mel says:

I can SO relate to the WordPress thing. It’s driving me crazy. I also have sensitive ears, but it’s the barking I hate more. In fact, I have tried to train Jasper to howl in the car when we go to the dog park so he will stop barking. 🙂

Very nice to meet you. Good luck with the two-step authentication. LOL!

    • The Golden Life says:

Very nice to meet you, too! I sent WP support an email asking — nicely but with a somewhat annoyed tone — “what if I don’t want to switch to the two-step authentication?” I haven’t received an answer yet.

  11. The Golden Life says:

Agnes, you don’t have to have a WordPress blog to participate in the blog hops. Many of our fellow pet bloggers are on Blogger/Blogspot. I believe Pamela (Something Wagging…) is and I’m sure she could help you figure out how to link up to the hop from there.

  12. susancwillett says:

So nice to meet you. I didn’t answer the “favorite food” question on my post, but if I did, I would have said “cookies,” too.

And oh, yeah, I know what it’s like to struggle with WordPress and code and every once in awhile something goes wrong and I wish I was more tech-savvy. So kudos to you and everyone who keeps on blogging despite that!

  13. Julie says:

LOL – love your comments about WordPress security 😉 Very nice to meet you – thank you for participating! It’s so nice to get to know everyone!

    • Agnes Lu says:

And I did a video clip for you and your three dogs with the background music of “Top of the world”!!! I guess you like this song, right??? It contains all the pictures you blogged online!!! But due to web speed limitation imposed by china’s friewall, I have problem when uploading it!!!

      • The Golden Life says:

Aww, that’s sweet of you. Maybe if you use only a few of the pictures instead of all of them you’ll be able to upload it? Either way, it’s the thought that counts and I appreciate your efforts! You’re a sweet girl!
