No K9 Kamp This Year But

I would have liked to participate in K9 KAMP with Callie and Shadow this year.  Okay, be honest, Sue.  You’d have liked the idea of it, but you enjoy being a little lazy in the morning after dropping Ducky off at daycare. Besides, Callie is still on limited exercise — no more than 15 minutes, two or three times a day, and less if she appears tired — some days she does great, others she just wants to be lazy like her mama. 🙂

Callie and Shadow have used the treadmill several times in the two years I’ve had the thing, but not since before Ducky came into our lives.  That’s how I helped them lose weight last year. It was too freakin hot and humid to go for walks at the park, even in the early morning hours; so I’d unfold the treadmill, plug it in, turn it on, and give them both a 30-minute walk at 2 miles an hour (on vet’s recommendation).  Here’s a picture of Callie using it last year. Shadow? Me? Yeah, we used it too, but I didn’t take any pix of myself and the ones of Shadow are in my Snapfish account.

I’m impressed that you were able to get the dogs to walk on a treadmill for 30″ Maybe you can do some of the mini-challenges this Summer, or come to Kamp in October

Well, that 30 minutes was back about a year ago — before Ducky, and before Callie tore her ACL — now I have to start from scratch with 15 minutes a day, and maybe not even every day. Nice and s l o w and easy does it.

That’s wonderful that the dogs enjoyed the treadmill. I know what you mean about exercise, it can be really tough to get motivated. To be honest, I never enjoy exercise! But my dog usually encourages me to do it anyway! p.s. I love golden retrievers!

The hardest part of using a treadmill is getting motivated to do it…it can be pretty boring! Mine isn’t wide enough for both a human and a dog — I know cuz I tried — or even 2 dogs & no human. So, I lose interest fast. 😦
